Discovering Lairg

in Lairg, Places

Lairg seems the last point of civilisation as we drive into the wilderness of Sutherland. It seems almost every route, to everywhere goes through Lairg.

We can be going to the northwest and Oldshoremore or Sandwood Bay, or Cape Wrath or Bettyhill, or Ben Hope or Ben Klibreck- doesn’t matter. Every time we go through, and return through this small community.

The town nestles at the foot of Loch Shin, a stretch of water which reaches out to the West. In fact it seems to go all the way across the country, but doesn’t of course – just feels like it.
It’s the home of the Lairg Estate – Private Lodge for Fishing, Shooting and Golf in the Highlands.

And its also the home of the Sutherland Sporting Company where visitors to the lodge can find the appropriate attire for the sporting gentry in the Highlands.

There’s not a lot going on most of the time, which could suit lots of people very well.
