Staying at the Dornoch Castle Hotel

in Accommodation, Dornoch

The Dornoch Castle Hotel has a lot of advantages when you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the Scottish Highlands. It’s easy to get to and within a day’s drive of everywhere in the north. It’s in the centre of Dornoch and offers a range of accommodation to fit most budgets.

The Dornoch Castle hotel is across the street from the Cathedral and only a 5 minute walk from the golf club.

The bar is a popular meeting place for a drink and bar meals, whereas the restaurant offers fine dining with food prepared by nationally acclaimed chefs.

There are super luxury rooms in the original castle building, and comfortable accommodation in the garden wing for those with more modest requirements.

The history of the building adds interest for the visitor. It’s built on the site of St. Gilbert’s original residence. There is no definitive record of this particular building but local historians are confident it was constructed in the 15th. Century and the home of the Bishop.

For centuries Dornoch was the capital of the Highlands, with the Bishop’s residence, the Cathedral, the Court House and the Jail, all of which are a couple of minutes walk from the hotel.

The Dornoch Castle Hotel has an excellent web site which will tell you everything you need to know about rooms, rates, and other services.

Took my mum, dad, aunt and my three young kids to DOrnoch for a special birthday lunch this week. Two very fussy adults and one awkward kid were amongst the group (no guessing who the fussy adults were!).
After visiting the lovely shops we headed off to the Castle. None of us had been to Dornoch Castle before and there was a little bit of concern it was maybe ‘too posh’ for the kids. but they were realy keen to eat in a castle.
The conservatory restaurant and food were great. The kids menu had more imagination than most, my 4 year old daughter loved her pesto penne! She hates chips so kids menus are usually an issue. The adults had the most wonderful Sea Bass (aunt up from Wales was totally impressed with the fresh taste), venison and a burger that was in (I think) a sun-dried tomato roll. Everyone (apart from yours truly) then had pudding – sticky toffee fudge pudding I think- which went down a treat.
A very successful lunch and would definitely recommend the Dornoch Castle.
