Kitesurfing has never, to my knowledge, been listed as a major attraction in the Highlands of Scotland. We’re all used to the golf, the shooting, the fishing, the walking and the whisky. But not Kitesurfing.
As these pictures will show both Highlands tourism organisations and Kitesurfers should be talking about Dornoch as a major venue.
The beach is miles long and usually empty. The bay into the Dornoch Firth is huge, and usually empty. The water is shallow, so the tide goes out and comes in a long way.
And of course it’s pretty breezy, with enough wind to make the surfing interesting and not so much as to stop the fun.
If you’re looking for a venue for Kitesurfing you could do a lot worse than choosing Dornoch.
