In the Scottish Highlands Pipe Bands are a lot more than a tourist attraction. Whilst their certainly entertaining for visitors they mean a great deal to the residents as well. Pipe Bands are part of the culture. Kids learn to play the pipes in school and every town has its own band made up pipers of all ages, and genders.
This video shows the Dornoch Pipe Band performing in the town square.
During the summer the band plays and marches through the streets every Saturday evening. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the precision of the marching and the harmony of the musicians. You’ll see them lining the streets having left the bars and restaurants for a while to join in the fun.
